Clothes-swap parties and book-exchange events have been going on for a while, but now a new recycled-culture initiative, set up by Alix Janta and Lauren Jones, takes the idea further.
With ArtBarter, the pair have created a public event at which visitors trade skills or possessions for an artwork by a top-name artist.
At the show, which takes place in east London from November 26-29, visitors can offer contemporary artists – including Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk and Mat Collishaw – anything in the hope of it being exchanged for one of their artworks.
"Whether it’s a bespoke suit or a dinner created by a chef, we’re expecting an extremely varied range of offers," says Jones.
